The following is the letter distributed to all students grades 1-8 in applicable schools:
Dear Parent or Guardian,
For the past two years, the Wayne Valley Chapter of the National Honor Society organized a tutoring program offered to
students from grades 1-8 who would be attending Wayne Valley High School. At the Wayne Public Library children met with members
of the National Honor Society who then sat with them to help in any area needed. Students were in a relaxed environment,
with students just like themselves who helped make homework as easy and painless as possible. After being a huge success,
Kids Helping Kids will continue into its third year.
The members of the NHS are juniors and seniors who are ranked among the highest in the school. They will be able to
help your student work on homework, clear up confusing topics, or study for upcoming tests. However, the tutors are not trained
to handle students with special needs. Therefore, if you feel your student may have difficulty working with the tutors, please
contact us to discuss whether he or she can be accommodated.
The program will start on Monday, November 10th and run Monday through Wednesday. If there is no school due to a holiday
or snow day, the tutoring session will be canceled for that day. The following is the schedule based on your child’s
grade level:
- Grades 6 - 8: 3:30 - 4:15 p.m.
- Grades 1 - 5: 4:15 - 5:00 p.m.
On the first day that your child attends, a permission slip must be filled out by a member of the family over the age of
18. Although the NHS members are glad to work with your student, please be respectful of their time and promptly pick up
your child at the designated time.
The National Honor Society looks forward to meeting with your child!
Sincerely
Elise
